25 Aug White Gates – an update
The gate and gatepost marking the entrance to the common at the top of Hadley Road have been removed for repair. You may recall they were badly damaged when they were struck by an articulated lorry last year. The gates at entrances to the Common are listed structures so local authority consent to the work has been required, and we needed to find a suitable expert firm to carry out the work. Work is also needed to repair the main gate post, and make sure it is well-secured and upright. The gates should be back in place in a few weeks time.
Here are a few pictures of the gates just after they were damaged, and being taken away on 24th August for repair. You can see just how deeply the post is embedded into the ground.
