Biodiversity on the Common

Biodiversity on the Common

Work has begun surveying veteran trees in order to work out how best to protect them. The survey aims to record location, girth, condition, environment with measurements and photos in order to identify which trees might require work such as halo pruning or root protection.  We are working to find the best way of mapping the trees, and of sharing the information through the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory.

Our work is also focussed on managing and encouraging our rare and important Acid Grassland areas, and we intend to host a visit by the British Entomological and Natural Society later in the year, with a view to obtaining and categorising specimens.

These and other initiatives are highlighted in our newly-published Newsletter, which also focusses on our involvement with the London Tree Ring Project.  Please see our Newsletter for details.
